Honor Council

The IAJHSC Honor Council Award gives special recognition to those schools that have designed exemplary programs for  their junior high/middle school Student Councils. “Exemplary” is defined as participating in IAJHSC programs and  sponsoring activities in each of the areas listed below. Please see the description of this award in the IAJHSC Advisor’s  Resource File on the website for examples of activities designed to meet the goals in the specific areas of the Honor Council  Program. 

To be eligible for this award, schools must have a minimum of eight (8) points in the IAJHSC participation category with no more than four (4) points in each of the categories of Networking and Outreach/Service. Councils must also complete the required activities listed on the application. ALL applications will be carefully screened.This application should be completed based on participation in IAJHSC programs and completion of activities by your Student Council from State Convention 2025 to State Convention 2026.

Bruce A. Small Legacy Award

This award started in 2024 to honor advisors that have left their mark on the IAJHSC.  Below you will find the criteria for the Bruce A. Small Legacy Award:

  • Served as a middle-level student council advisor for a minimum of 5 years
  • Significantly impacted their student council and their district
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and guidance
  • Offered support, advice, and guidance to others
  • Collaborated with school administrators, teachers, parents, and other advisors
  • Fostered positive relationships and worked towards common goals
  • Involved in the community
  • Implemented innovative and creative ideas
  • Served as a positive role model for all student council members
