IAJHSC Executive Board

Due to the growing spread of the coronavirus disease, COVID-19, the IAJHSC has decided to cancel the 61st Annual IAJHSC State Convention which was scheduled for April 17 – 18, 2020, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois—as well as the 2020 IAJHSC Summer Leadership Camp which was scheduled for June 21-27 at the 4-H Memorial Camp/Allerton Park in Monticello, Illinois.

These decisions were not made lightly and were, indeed, very difficult to make.  However, when weighing the benefits of holding the annual state convention and summer camp as opposed to the risks involved if we did, there was simply no other decision to be made.  Scheduling and the continued spread of this disease make it impossible to reschedule the events at this time.

The entire IAJHSC Executive Board deeply shares your disappointment and hopes you will understand the safety of our students and advisors comes before anything else.  We will watch carefully as this situation continues to develop and will inform you of any other cancellations which may become necessary because of it.

Be Safe!!  Be Healthy!!

Make-A-Wish® Illinois Selected as the 2019-2020 IAJHSC State Service Project

Make-A-Wish Illinois

Make-A-Wish® Illinois is an organization that works with sick children from around the state. These children are able to request their wishes. These wishes could be as simple as wishing for a birthday party or as grand as a trip to Disney World.

Make-A-Wish® Illinois does not prioritize one wish over another; every wish request is fulfilled. Every year, around 1,200 children in Illinois are newly diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Make-A-Wish® Illinois believes that these wishes are important in the overall care and treatment of these children. When kids get diagnosed with a serious condition, it can have a devastating effect on their mental health. Seeing their wishes fulfilled can boost their attitude and help treatments be more successful.

From the Executive Director

Convention Crescendo

January 27th, 2020  |  Posted by admin

Welcome to a New Year! I sincerely hope 2020 will help you and your student council hit their peak so your leadership symphony reaches the ears of all the people in your school and community. I encourage you to keep working to make your leadership “music” fun, exciting, and inviting for all. Work hard to complete your school year and “Conduct the Leadership Symphony!”

Things are in full swing for the upcoming 61st Annual IAJHSC State Convention. Our keynote speaker this year is Mr. Scott Backovich, a nationally recognized speaker. He is so popular that we had to contract him two years ago to make sure we could get him as out speaker for convention this year. His leadership messages and his ability to really connect with middle level students will make him a speaker you won’t want to miss!! Scott will be doing the Friday night and Saturday morning keynotes as well as the smaller group sessions on Saturday during the lunch rotations.
