Camp Sheilah logo

IAJHSC has chosen the Sheilah A Doyle Foundation - Camp Sheilah as the recipient of the 2018 State Service Project. According to the foundation, they are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides support and assistance to children ages 7-17 whose parent, legal guardian, or sibling fell victim to homicide. Through their bereavement camp and their college scholarship program, they believe that they can transform a child’s tragedy into a bright future.

From the Executive Director

A “SUPER” Year Begins for the IAJHSC!

August 24th, 2017  |  Posted by admin

Seems like summer was over in a FLASH!  I sincerely hope you are all off to a SUPER (man) start to your new school year.  I am thinking that we can work together to  make your student council members, your school, and your community have an (Mr.) INCREDIBLE leadership experience during the coming months.  So don’t be (Ninja) TURTLES … Jump on board now “faster than a speeding bullet” and let the IAJHSC help “Unmask the Super Leader in YOU!”

I would encourage all of you to plan to attend the Advisors’ Leadership Workshop on September 21- 22, 2017, at the Eastland Suites and Conference Center in Normal, IL.  It will truly give you the chance to meet with other “super” advisors to share ideas and concerns you may have as you begin your student council adventure for the coming year.  The registration information and form were sent to you via snail mail, email, and can be found here on our website.  It is a MARVELous value for just $85 per person.  Thursday night will give attendees the opportunity to meet with board members in round tables to discuss things ranging from convention and the Honor Council Award to how to host a workshop, theme ideas, community service ideas, State Service Project selection, and other such things which will help you get a great start on your student council school year.  Friday will feature presentations by Ms. Shari Murphy who is well known for her work on student leadership.  You can check out her profile and credentials here on our website.

Be sure to check the calendar here on the website for upcoming leadership workshops in your district.  We have several scheduled so far but are always looking for more hosts in each of the districts.  Leadership workshops are a great way for your student council members to really expand their leadership skills and experiences.  Hosting a leadership workshop makes for an invaluable tool your council members to practice their leadership skills.  Talk with your Adult Director as soon as possible if you are interested in stepping forward to be a “super leader” on this activity!!

I have just one more reminder … Don’t forget to start making plans now for the 59th Annual IAJHSC State Convention.  It will be held on April 20 – 21, 2018, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois.  This is truly an event you will not want to miss.  The board has already been making plans for this spectacular activity.  Ms. Heather Schultz will be our keynote speaker for the weekend.  She is nationally known youth motivational speaker and a phenomenal champion of student leadership!

I wish you the very best for the coming school year … Hope to see you at the Advisors’ Leadership Workshop!!
